This post is part of the Five Minute Friday blog link-up. Where I join up with a community of writers and bloggers of all ages and stages who gather around a single-word prompt to free-write, unscripted, unedited, for five minutes. This week’s word prompt is {{DEAL}}.

We use the word deal a lot in our everyday lives, don’t we?

  • “What’s the big deal?”
  • “Let’s make a deal.”
  • “I just can’t deal with this right now.”

From business transactions to the cards we are handed in life, we are constantly trying to broker, manage, or survive a “deal.” But when we look at our lives through the lens of faith, the way we handle these moments changes completely.

If you are feeling overwhelmed by what’s on your plate this week, let’s take a look at how God wants us to deal with life and how He beautifully deals with us.

1. How God Deals with Us: With Bounty and Grace

Sometimes, when life gets hard, we feel like God is dealing from a stacked deck or holding out on us. But Scripture tells a completely different story. Psalm 116:7 says:

“Return to your rest, my soul, for the Lord has dealt bountifully with you.”

God doesn’t deal with us based on what we deserve (thank goodness for grace!). He doesn’t look at us like a strict business manager looking to cut costs. He deals out mercy, love, and provisions day after day. When we realize that His baseline toward us is goodness, it changes how we view our current circumstances.

2. How to Deal with Everyday Stress

Let’s be real: some days, just waking up and looking at the to-do list makes you want to pull the covers back over your head. You might be thinking, “I just can’t deal with this coworker,” or “I don’t know how to deal with this financial strain.”

The secret to dealing with overwhelming situations isn’t to muster up more human strength. It’s about a transfer of ownership. 1 Peter 5:7 tells us to cast all our anxiety on Him, because He cares for us.

When you hand your worries over to God, you are saying, “Lord, You deal with this, because I can’t.” And guess what? He is an incredible manager of our messes.

3. Making a Deal vs. Trusting a Promise

In our culture, a deal is conditional. “I’ll do this if you do that.” Sometimes we mistakenly bring that mentality into our prayer lives: “God, if You get me out of this, I promise I’ll go to church every Sunday.”

But God doesn’t make flimsy deals; He makes unbreakable covenants. He doesn’t love you more when you succeed, and He doesn’t love you less when you trip up. You don’t have to bargain for His blessing. It’s already yours through Jesus.

The Big Takeaway for Your Week

Whatever you are staring down today—whether it’s a difficult conversation, a difficult decision, or just the mundane routine of a busy Tuesday—remember this: You don’t have to deal with it alone.

The Creator of the universe is walking right beside you. He has already dealt death and fear a losing hand, and He is ready to deal you a fresh hand of peace, strength, and joy for today.

Reflect: What is one thing you’re trying to deal with on your own strength right now? How can you hand it over to God today?

Have a blessed week, friends!

** As usual, I’m way over 5 minutes…sigh.**

  1. it’s all good going over the five minutes. We don’t care. 🙂 Have to admit, I’ve just done a devotional on Ananias and Sapphira and I’m struggling with balancing the fear of God with his care and love of us. visiting from FMF16

  2. Yes, that’s what I’ve been reminding myself of this last few weeks, that no matter what I’m being faced with, I don’t have to do so alone, because Jesus, my good shepherd, is walking right through it alongside me.

  3. Very encouraging. Thanks for that. ❤️ G

  4. Amen! Good words today. I think this has been the most difficult part of my walk. Being raised to take control and do my job and push through everything – and NOT complain – and do it RIGHT – it has taken years to allow God to do it. But He is SO much better at the life things than I am. Things to smoothly with God. … and He always deals me a Full House (hearts). Blessings on your week! (FMF#3)
