Catching My Eye and Notable For Me

Here are some of the things that stood out to me:

— Maps, Maps, and More Maps: I love that there are maps within the chapters and in the back of the Bible. It’s not just a collection of maps; they are strategically placed to enhance understanding as you read. I love to feel like I’m traveling with the people, seeing the places where these events occurred, and gaining a better understanding of the geographical context of the biblical narrative.

— Reading Plans: I know I will value using the reading plans at the back of the Bible. I appreciate the variety of plans offered, catering to different reading preferences and goals. I like the little boxes by the reading plan chapters; I can use a pencil and lightly mark what I’ve read, allowing me to track my progress and stay motivated.

— Dictionary and Concordance: I appreciate the inclusion of a dictionary and concordance as it makes in-depth study much more accessible. These tools are invaluable for looking up unfamiliar words, exploring the nuances of the original languages, and tracing themes and concepts throughout the Scriptures.

— NIV Application App: At the front of the Bible, there’s a QR code to scan with your phone to download the NIV Application App on your phone. I already did! This seamless integration of print and digital resources is a huge plus, providing flexibility and convenience for studying the Bible in different contexts.

— Custom Typeface: And, fun fact: did you know this NIV has its very own typeface? It was commissioned by Zondervan, a division of Harper Collins Publishing, and designed in Denmark. The designers carefully considered letter spacing, line height, and contrast to create a beautiful and easy typeface on the eyes. It is really easy for me to see, which makes reading for extended periods much more comfortable.

Drawbacks

The only drawback for me was I would have liked to see some room for note-taking, either in some of the margins or having extra blank pages in the back for notes. While the Bible is rich in study features, the ability to jot down personal reflections, insights, and questions directly within the pages would have been a valuable addition for me.
