This post is part of the Five Minute Friday blog link-up. Where I join up with a community of writers and bloggers of all ages and stages who gather around a single-word prompt to free-write, unscripted, unedited, for five minutes. This week’s prompt is {{Scared}}
Hey there! Have you ever felt that little knot in your stomach, that quickening of your pulse? Yep, that’s often good ol’ scared creeping in. It’s a pretty universal human experience, right? From the little things like a spider suddenly appearing to the bigger stuff that keeps us up at night.
Now, let’s be real. As Christians and adults, we’re not immune to feeling scared. The Bible doesn’t promise us a life free from fear. In fact, it acknowledges the reality of it. Think about the disciples in the boat during the storm – they were terrified! Or even Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane, facing the immense weight of what was to come, He was deeply troubled and, yes, likely scared.
But here’s the beautiful truth: feeling scared doesn’t mean we’re abandoned. It doesn’t mean our faith has failed. Instead, it’s an opportunity to turn to the One who is bigger than anything that scares us.
Think about it. When you’re truly scared, where do you instinctively turn? For many of us, it’s to something or someone we trust. And as believers, our ultimate trust lies in God. He’s the anchor in our storms, the steady hand in the darkness.
The Bible is full of verses that speak directly to this feeling of being scared. “Fear not,” is a phrase that pops up again and again. It’s not a command to never feel the emotion, but rather a reminder that even when we do feel scared, we don’t have to let it control us. We have a Father who sees, loves, and promises to be with us.
So, the next time that wave of being scared washes over you, remember you’re not alone. Acknowledge the feeling, but then intentionally shift your focus. Pray. Read scripture. Lean on your faith community. Because even when we’re scared, we have a God who is not, and He’s holding us every step of the way. We can move through what scares us, not in our strength, but in His. And that, my friends, is a peace that passes all understanding.
