When God Calls Us to Reset

In our fast-paced, always-connected world, it can be difficult to find time to stop, pause, and reset. But sometimes, that’s exactly what we need to do.

As Christians, we know that God is the source of all true rest and refreshment. He invites us to come to Him and be still, so that He can renew our strength, and give us peace (Psalm 46:10).

Often we find ourselves caught up in the busyness of life. We have work to do, families to take care of, and ministries to lead. With so much going on, it can be easy to forget to take a break and simply rest in God’s presence.

But the truth is, sometimes we need to stop, pause, and reset. We need to take time to reflect on our lives and prioritize what truly matters. Only then can we find the renewal we need to continue on our journey with Christ.

In Psalm 46:10, we’re reminded to “be still and know that [He] is God.” This verse encourages us to take a break from our hectic lives and spend time in quiet reflection, allowing us to refocus our minds on God and His plan for our lives.

When we take time to pause and reset, we can also gain a fresh perspective on our problems and challenges. Instead of feeling overwhelmed, we can approach our difficulties with renewed strength and a sense of purpose that comes from God.

In Matthew 11:28-30, Jesus invites us to come to Him when we are weary and burdened, promising to give us rest. He encourages us to take His yoke upon us, for His burden is light. When we take the time to rest in Him, we can experience peace that surpasses all understanding.

So, how do we stop, pause, and reset our lives in Christ? Here are a few tips:

  1. Spend time with God. Prayer and Bible study are essential for spiritual growth. When you spend time with God, He’ll renew your mind and spirit and give you the strength to live a life that’s pleasing to Him.
  2. Spend time with your loved ones. Strong relationships are essential for a happy and fulfilling life. Make time for the people you care about, and let them know how much they mean to you.
  3. Do things you enjoy. It’s important to have a balance in life. Make time for activities that you enjoy and that help you relax and recharge.
  4. Take a break from technology. It’s easy to get addicted to our phones and computers. But it’s important to take breaks from technology from time to time. Go for a walk, read a book, or spend time in nature.
  5. Get enough sleep. Sleep is essential for our physical and mental health. Aim for 7–8 hours of sleep per night.
  6. Set boundaries. It’s important to set boundaries between your work life and your personal life. Don’t check work emails or messages outside work hours. And make sure to schedule time each week for activities that you enjoy and that help you relax and recharge.

So if you’re feeling overwhelmed or burnt out, take some time to stop, pause, and reset. Spend time in prayer and reflection, and allow God to renew your mind and spirit. Remember that in Him, we can find the rest and renewal we need to continue on our journey with Christ.

Essentially

There are many reasons we might need to reset. Maybe we’re feeling overwhelmed, stressed, or burned out. Maybe we’re going through a difficult time in our lives. Or maybe we’re simply feeling lost and out of touch with God.

Whatever the reason, it’s important to remember that resetting isn’t a sign of weakness. It’s a sign of strength and wisdom. It’s a way to take care of ourselves and to make sure that we’re living our lives to the fullest.

  1. This has been such a blessing since learning it years ago. I used to think going full-tilt as much as possible was the best way to be productive for the Lord. But He has made us to need to rest at times. Now I embrace this wonderful gift!

  3. I think turning off the news is the best thing for me. It causes so much stress, and one doesn’t even know if half of what they tell you on the news is even true, everything is so biased and has an agenda behind it. I love all the verses you shared, but the first one is one of my favs.

  4. Getting our rest is so essential, yet we so often fight it! I’m not even sure why. lol. I guess we’re so busy trying to be productive and get things done. But we’re more likely to get things done when we’re rested, and get them done with a better attitude. 🙂
