Colossians 4:2 Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. (NIV)
How we pray has been on my mind a lot lately. We each have our uniqueness in how we pray.
God hears us when we pray. The Bible shows us the many men and women who went to God in prayer. Jesus prayed.
I pray daily and talk to Jesus throughout my day; there’s always a song in my head. But, sometimes, prayer can be difficult for some and, at times, even us. Many people struggle with knowing how to pray. I, too, at times find myself asking God, ” Is my praying good enough God?” “How can I pray better for you?”. In reality, I know my prayers are good enough; as long as I’m praying with heartfelt love, I know he hears me.
Jeremiah 29:12 Then you will come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. (NIV)
Paul was reliably talking about a heartfelt attitude, not a never-ending prayer meeting or devotional time.
Crosswalk.com gives us the following tips for praying 1) Pray. 2) Read the Bible and pray over verses. 3) Make prayer active and multisensory ( light a candle, listen to music, doodling, drawing, or painting). 4) make prayer an integral part of your day. 5) Pray expectantly (Jesus invites us to expect God to work).
The Psalms and Paul’s letters are full of prayers and are another excellent go-to for me if I feel I’m struggling or when I’m at a loss for words. You may find specific prayers there that may be just what you’re looking for or what you may be feeling inside. There have been times during my Bible reading time that I’ve read something, and it popped out at me, and I’ll say, ” God, how did you know? That’s how I feel”. Then I give praises to him.
You can also keep a prayer journal if you’d like. When I pray, I talk to God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit as if I am sitting down and having a conversation with you.
Jesus tells us in Matthew 6:9-13, “This then is how you should pray,” Then he gives us the Lord’s Prayer as a guide, a template if you will.
Matthew 7:7 ” Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock, and the door will be open to you…” (NIV)
Don’t sell yourself, short friend; God hears any and all prayers. Our prayers can be simple or more extended; it’s whatever works for you. God created us in his image, and he gave us our uniqueness, your prayers and walk with the Lord will be unique to you.
