Seasons Come, Seasons Go, This Ole’ Earth Keeps Spinnin’ Round

The Beauty of Time: Embracing the Rhythm of Grace

A quick look through photos on my phone always catches me by surprise. One minute I’m looking at the vibrant greens of summer, the next I’m wrapped in a cozy autumn sweater on the porch swing, and before I know it, there’s snow dusting the ground while I warm my hands around a hot mug of coffee.

Seasons come, and seasons go. This ole’ earth just keeps on spinnin’ round, carrying us through a beautiful, continuous cycle of change.

Sometimes, if we are being completely honest, the speed of it all can leave us feeling a little breathless. It is so easy to find ourselves longing for a past season, or conversely, wishing away a difficult present season in hopes of what lies ahead. But Scripture gives us a beautiful framework to help us anchor our hearts when the world feels like it’s moving a bit too fast.

In the book of Ecclesiastes, we are reminded of the profound rhythm that God has woven into the very fabric of creation:

“To everything there is a season, A time for every purpose under heaven… He has made everything beautiful in its time.” — Ecclesiastes 3:1, 11

Think about that for a moment—everything beautiful in its time.

The bare branches of winter are just as necessary as the sweet blooms of spring. The quiet, restful seasons of our lives serve just as much of a divine purpose as the busy, bustling ones. When we look out at the world—or look at our own reflection—and realize how much has changed over the years, we don’t have to look back with sadness. Instead, we can look forward with a deep sense of peace, knowing that the very same God who holds the stars in place is holding our hands through every single transition.

Ecclesiastes also reminds us of a comforting truth about the earth’s rhythm:

“One generation passes away, and another generation comes; But the earth abides forever. The sun also rises, and the sun goes down, And hastens to the place where it arose.” — Ecclesiastes 1:4-5

While the world keeps turning and the scenery changes, God’s faithfulness remains absolutely rock-solid. He doesn’t shift like shifting shadows. He is the anchor in the middle of the spin. When we learn to lean into Him, we can stop worrying about the passage of time and start truly savoring the unique gifts that today has to offer.

No matter what season you find yourself walking through right now—whether it feels like a sunny summer day or a long, quiet winter afternoon—take heart. God is already there, working all things together for good, and making your story beautiful in His perfect time.

“While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, winter and summer, and day and night shall not cease.” — Genesis 8:22

• This is: A beautiful reminder that when our roots are anchored deeply in the Lord, we don’t have to fear the “weather” or the harsh seasons of life. We can stay vibrant and peaceful through it all.

“Therefore be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, waiting patiently for it until it receives the early and latter rain.” — James 5:7

• This: speaks perfectly to the seasons where we feel like we are just waiting. It encourages us to have the patience of a gardener, trusting that God is at work beneath the surface during quiet times.

“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.” — James 1:17

• Because: While the earth keeps spinning and shadows shift throughout the day and the seasons, God never changes. He is the constant anchor in a shifting world.

“And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.” — Galatians 6:9

• This Is: A wonderful word of encouragement for anyone who feels tired in their current season. It’s a promise that the planting and tending you are doing right now will yield a sweet harvest in God’s timing.

We cannot slow down the spinning of this old earth, but we can quiet our hearts before the One who created it. Don’t miss the blessings of today by longing for yesterday or rushing toward tomorrow. Take a deep breath, trust His timing, and savor the season you are in right now.
