This post is part of the Five Minute Friday blog link-up. Where I join up with a community of writers and bloggers of all ages and stages who gather around a single-word prompt to free-write, unscripted, unedited, for five minutes. This week’s word prompt is {{Turkey}}
This week we’re meeting up over at Andrew’s place—a big thank you to Andrew for hosting for Kate through the end of the year. Andrew will be picking fun word prompts for us to write about.
A wobbly little turkey stood
beneath the green leaves of the wood.
He had a tiny, happy snood
and feathers, oh, so very good!
His plump red wattle, soft and neat,
angled right above his feet.
He woke up early, with the sun,
and knew his happy day had begun.
He pecked a seed, he gave a hop,
his little head went flip and flop.
He dreamt of corn and berry crops,
and hoped his fun would never stop.
He chased a moth, a buzzing blur,
and ruffled up his dusty fur (or feathers, as they truly were!).
He wandered down the grassy hill
and found a tiny, rushing rill.
He took a sip and paused to thrill
at all the quiet, country still.
He saw a squirrel race up a tree,
and thought, “That looks like fun to me!”
But turkeys can’t climb quite so high,
so he just watched it hurry by.
He puffed his chest, he made a sound,
the silliest one in all the ground:
“Gobble-gobble-gook!” went he,
for all the world and woods to see!
With gentle steps, he ran around,
the cutest friend could not be found!
And when the shadows grew so deep,
he found a log and fell asleep,
ready for the fun he’d keep!
