Summer days at my best friend Kim’s house are pure bliss. We spend countless hours at their backyard pavilion, a haven of peace and a front-row seat to God’s incredible creation. Kim’s husband, a true craftsman, built a jumbo-sized bird feeding station that has become the star of the show. It’s been such a joy to be intentional about savoring the backyard creatures that visit.

Each day brings a new opportunity to savor the variety of birds with their lovely melodies, creating a natural soundtrack to our conversations. Then there are the busy chipmunks darting about with an energy that makes you smile. And oh, the squirrels! I just love squirrels with their zany antics and acrobatic feats. They’re masters of entertainment, and watching them always helps me savor the simple joys.

I can’t forget about the bunnies too, though recently, a new character has joined the cast: a groundhog, who has taken up residence under their back porch. It’s incredible to see how God provides homes for all His creatures. And speaking of provision, Kim and her husband have a huge garden, and we just enjoyed their first harvest of zucchini for the season. We savored every bite of the fried, breaded zucchini for lunch—a delicious reminder of God’s bounty.

Taking the time to savor these backyard buddies has been a profoundly enriching experience. It’s a chance to slow down, breathe, and appreciate the intricate details of creation. From the smallest bird to the newest groundhog, each creature is a testament to God’s creativity and care. What a gift it is to witness His artistry right in my friends’ backyard.

What backyard creatures bring you joy and help you savor God’s creation?

  3. Yes, nature in the backyard is blissful. Recently we had a new furry friend find a way to our porch or rather under the porch. Not too sure I can savor this little creature…..a skunk! Now on the other hand the deer, rabbits, birds and baby calves are animals I can savor.
    Thank you for hosting.

  4. Beautiful shots.

  5. Paula, my greatest joy each day is watching the wildlife in my gardens! I feel like God Himself comes to visit me in these creatures. Your photos are stunning!

  6. Paula, your photos are wonderful and I am glad you are able to enjoy such beauty. Our yard can often host bunnies, turkeys, an occasion fox, and other birds. I always feel such delight to see them. May you enjoy the rest of this month!

  7. We, too, have been savoring the wildlife wonders that have been visiting our yard – both at home and at the lake – this summer. My hubby built a “squirrel proof” bird feeding area and it’s been such fun to see the variety of birds that visit and amusing to watch the squirrels try their best to reach it, with no luck! A little bit more disconcerting have been the regular visits from a mama bear and her cubs at the lake… i’s made us a bit reticent to head outside by oneself on a quiet day!

    1. Oh my goodness I’d be Leary with a bear around too.

What a wonderful opportunity to sit and enjoy the Creator’s creatures, Paula! Thank you for sharing these amazing animal photos with us!

  9. This looks like a delightful place to sit, and in the company of a good friend, more the better. Enjoy what is left of the summer, and I hope you are feeling much better. I read about your vertigo dizziness – I have had that too – scary when it happened the first time and I just turned over in bed! Look after you. Enjoy your week ahead and thankyou for visiting my blog this last week.

    1. Thank yo Jen and It’s my pleasure to share.

  11. We put up a new bird feeder this spring that actually keeps the squirrels from eating all the seed in a single day. ha. So I also am savoring seeing the birds at the feeder, plus the animals that gather underneath it to eat the leftover crumbs.

    1. I love squirrels, there so sweet and zany.

  12. Oh wow! What an amazing backyard! Seeing all the wildlife is something special. Well done that husband for building the bird feeding station.

    1. It’s so relaxing to be able to sit at my friends backyard pavilion and watch all their wildlife.

  13. This is beautiful, Paula. I love watching the wildlife too. We have a momma duck and her ducklings visit our garden daily, and squirrels! Also, a gorgeous tawny owl who sits in our trees at night and calls away. 🙂

    1. Thank you Jayne, I know what you’re saying, I just love to watch the wildlife in the back yard.
