This post is part of the Five Minute Friday blog link-up. Where I join up with a community of writers and bloggers of all ages and stages who gather around a single-word prompt to free-write, unscripted, unedited, for five minutes. This week’s prompt is {{Original}}

We live in a world obsessed with the new, the trendy, the latest iteration. From fashion to technology, we’re constantly bombarded with messages telling us we need the next big thing. But amidst this relentless pursuit of the “updated,” have we lost sight of the beauty and power of the original?

As Christians, this concept of “original” takes on a profound, even sacred, meaning.

We are, after all, created in God’s image – His original masterpiece. Genesis 1:27 tells us, “God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.”— NASB.

Think about that for a moment. You, with your unique quirks, talents, and even flaws, are a direct reflection of the Creator. You are not a copy, a mass-produced item from an assembly line. You are an original work of art designed with intention and love.

But in a world saturated with comparisons and social media filters, it’s easy to forget our inherent worth. We compare ourselves to the carefully curated lives we see online, striving to emulate the “perfect” image. We try to fit into molds that were never meant for us, losing sight of the unique purpose God has placed within us.

This is where the power of the Gospel comes in. Jesus didn’t come to refine the copies; He came to redeem the originals. He sees us not as flawed imitations but as precious individuals created in His Father’s image. He understands our struggles, our insecurities, and our longing for acceptance.

We are called to authenticity. True beauty lies not in conforming to the world’s standards but in embracing our authentic selves, the “original” God created us to be.

Let us strive to live as the originals God created us to be. Let us embrace our unique identities, our God-given gifts, and the freedom found in knowing we are loved unconditionally. Let us shine His light into the world, not as imitations, but as the beautiful, original masterpieces He intended us to be.

May we always remember that in God’s eyes, we are not just another face in the crowd. We are His cherished, original creations, and that is a truth worth celebrating.
