Let’s be honest, birds can be a bit…well, loud. Especially at dawn when they seem determined to wake the entire neighborhood with their enthusiastic chirps. I wouldn’t call myself a “bird person.” While I appreciate their role in the ecosystem, their constant chirping sometimes feels like an unwanted alarm clock.

However, I do enjoy visiting my friend’s house. Her backyard is a haven for feathered friends, with a bird feeding station constantly buzzing with activity. It’s a beautiful sight, this diverse cast of characters flitting about, but birdwatching for leisure? Not really my cup of tea.

Then, one sunny afternoon, everything changed. Sipping coffee with my friend under her charming backyard pavilion, the usual symphony of chirps filled the air. This time, though, a single voice broke through the chorus. It was the most beautiful birdsong I had ever heard. Clear, melodic, and filled with an unexpected richness, it drew me in like a magnet.

Looking around, I spotted the soloist perched proudly on the fence. I don’t know what kind of bird it was, but its melody held a power I couldn’t explain. It warmed my heart, filled me with a lightness of joy, and had my attention for as long as it sang.

At that moment, I was struck by the unexpected beauty God had created in this tiny creature. His artistry wasn’t confined to grand landscapes or majestic animals. It was woven into the very fabric of life, even in the seemingly ordinary song of a bird.

Right there, under the open sky, I praised God for his magnificent musical creation. I thanked him for the unexpected way he used a simple bird to touch my heart and bring me closer to him.

 Encouragement

This experience reminds us that God’s wonder surrounds us everywhere, even in the sights and sounds we might otherwise overlook. Take a moment to be present in your surroundings. Listen for the music in the world around you, from the chirping of birds to the rustling of leaves. Open your heart to the beauty God has created, and see the world with new eyes.

Let’s use these experiences to deepen our connection with God and appreciate the wonder he has woven into the world.

  1. I’ve often wondered at hearing people talk about birdsong, because I have never heard one that sounds like a song–more like cheeps and chirps. What a sweet experience to hear a bird melody! I love when some aspect of God’s creation stops us in our tracks.

    1. Yes, it was a melody and it did make me stop

  2. While I am not a bird-watcher per se, I absolutely love watching the birds in our yard. The sounds, the activities, and the many nests always cause me to be filled with wonder of all our God has created. He truly has created a beautiful world for our enjoyment in so many ways.

    1. I like watching the birds that come to my friend’s feeding station. I’m especially delighted when the squirrel scurries on their garden fence. He sits in one of the stand alone bird feeders too. I love being awed by God’s creations.
