Scripture

“Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.” 1

Thessalonians 5:11— NIV

Encouragement

As we journey through mid-life, we may find ourselves in need of true and genuine friendships more than ever before. In the midst of our busy lives, it can be easy to lose touch with those who have been dear to us through the years. However, the Bible reminds us in 1 Thessalonians 5:11 to “encourage one another and build each other up.”

Friendship is a beautiful gift from God that should be cherished and nurtured. Proverbs 17:17 reminds us that True friendship is a constant love that is not affected by time or circumstance. A brother is born to help you in times of need. This means that our friends are there for us through thick and thin, and we should always be there for them in return.

If you find yourself feeling lonely or disconnected from your friends, take heart, and reach out to them. Pick up the phone, send an email, or schedule a coffee date. You never know how much your presence and encouragement can mean to someone who may be struggling. And remember, it’s never too late to make new friends! Join a club or organization that interests you, or volunteer in your community. You never know who you might meet and connect with.

 Application

Let’s commit to being intentional about our friendships, especially in this season of life. Take time to pray for your friends, to listen to their stories, and to share your own. Be open and vulnerable with them, and don’t be afraid to ask for help when you need it. Let’s encourage one another and build each other up, as we journey through mid-life and beyond.

 Prayer

Dear Lord, thank you for the gift of friendship. Help us to be intentional about nurturing our relationships with our friends, especially in this season of life. Give us wisdom and discernment as we navigate the ups and downs of mid-life and help us to rely on each other for support and encouragement. May our friendships reflect your love and grace, and bring honor to your name. In Jesus’ name, we pray, Amen
